Phagwara: The Two days festival of Chhat Puja began with great fervor in the area including Phagwara,Phillaur,Goraya, Banga,etc among thousands of UP and Bihari Migoratory Labourers families.
Chhat Puja is the only festival in the country when prayers are offered not only to the rising sun but also the setting sun.Chhat Puja festival is observed six days after Diwali festival.
Shanti a bihari migoratory labourer woman said,Chhat Puja is a festival of prayer and propition and all devotees observed fast(Varta) for 36 hours.They take meal only after performing the rituals.Meanwhile thousands of devotees were seen standing in knee deep water in Sutlej river Phillaur and canals of Phagwara and Goraya to observe the Chhat Puja.Sanju another young bihari girl told that they sleep on the floor and wear unstitched clothes.At sun set,holy water and milk poured in the river or canal and given"Argya".She told that on next day prayers would be offered to rising sun on tomorrow ie saturday and Argya would again be given to rising sun.She said,they have blind faith and believe that Lord Sun gives them whatever they prayed during Chhat Puja.
