Haryana emerge champions in National junior women boxing

Patna: Haryana clinched the team championships title in the 4th National junior women boxing tournament with 38 points at the end of fifth and final day’s bouts at the Moinul Haq stadium here on Saturday.

Assam finished runners-up with 37 points to their credit. This was Haryana's four-in-a-row team title win. Altogether 226 boxers from 26 states took part in the competition.

Haryana bagged four gold, two silver and as many bronze medals, while Assam got five gold, four silvers and one bronze. Bihar bagged three silver and two bronze medals in the championships.

Pooja Tokas of Delhi was declared the best boxer of the championship while Priyanka of Bihar was adjudged the best promising boxer of the tournament.
Rekha Swami of Delhi and Laxmi of Punjab were declared the best judge and the best referee respectively. Annapurna of Andhra Pradesh was declared best loser.

Bihar’s Science and Technology Minister Shahid Ali Khan was the chief guest and he gave away the prizes. BS Maan, Commandant, CRPF was the special guest at the closing function. Kumar Vijay, chairman, reception committee welcomed the guests. Raiv Kumar Singh, organising secretary proposed a vote of thanks. Organising president Dinesh presided over the function.

Asit Banerjee, vice-president, Indian Boxing Federation (IBF) its administrative secretary, Rakesh Thakran, Gouri Shankar, secretary, Bihar State Ball Badminton Association and Dr Sunil Kumar Singh, general secretary, Dr Shiv Narain Singh Sports Foundation were present at the function.
